UN issued Urgent Appeal as Myanmar Humanitarian Crisis Demands Immediate International Attention after Chinese drug cartels attack
Yangon 17 January 2024
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) has issued a distressing report, revealing that an alarming 620,800 individuals have fled their homes from October 2023 to the present day. The current number of displaced people in Myanmar has surged to over 2.5 million, a dire situation primarily attributed to the ongoing conflicts across the nation.
The alliance of Chinese Drug Cartel armies operating inside Myanmar territory attacks 35 cities inside Myanmar territory on October 27, 2023 which they named as the “Operation 1027”. The extensive used of Drones by the Cartel Armies caused devastating defeat for Myanmar Junta Army and displacing civilian populations in the vast area along Myanmar-Chinese border.
The intensity of the fighting, particularly in areas of fierce conflict, continues to contribute to the escalating number of displaced individuals. Unfortunately, the funding allocated to assist these vulnerable populations has only reached 30% of the required amount. In 2023, the assistance efforts fell short of the necessary 600 million U.S. dollars.
Looking ahead to 2024, an additional 994 million U.S. dollars are urgently needed to support an anticipated 5.3 million displaced people. It is crucial to draw the attention of the international community to the Myanmar crisis and emphasize that it cannot be ignored. Swift and substantial support is essential to alleviate the hardships and troubles faced by the local population in Myanmar. Your assistance and engagement in this matter are greatly appreciated.
