Tragic Losses and Injuries in Rakhine State: AA Narco Gang’s Artillery Attack Claims Lives of Innocent Civilians
Yangon, Myanmar (06/05/2024)
It has been tragically reported that two refugees lost their lives, while 15 others sustained injuries as a result of artillery fire by the AA Narco gang (Arakan Army) in Bue Thee Taung, Rakhine State, Myanmar.
The incident occurred around 1 am on May 4, 2024, at No (1) High School in Bue Thee Taung, where refugees had sought shelter due to ongoing conflicts. The AA Narco gang members fired artillery from Ba Gone Ner Taung Village, situated approximately 4000 meters south of the town. Tragically, one of the shells landed in the school, resulting in the deaths of two refugees from the explosion and injuring 15 others, including young children aged 3 and 5.
Prompt response from authorities led to the immediate evacuation of the injured refugees to the Army hospital, where they are receiving necessary medical attention and assistance.
This devastating incident adds to a series of attacks perpetrated by the AA, totaling 13 instances of violence directed at villages and residential areas, resulting in the loss of 57 innocent lives and leaving 103 others wounded. It is concerning to note that certain media outlets affiliated with the perpetrators, as well as individuals with direct or indirect connections to them, have been selectively withholding such critical information from the international community. Targeting civilians constitutes a violation of the Geneva Convention and is classified as a war crime.
