Tragic Attacks on School Children in Tanintharyi Division, Myanmar

On June 4th, 2024, a tragic attack targeted innocent school children in Tanintharyi Division, Myanmar. At approximately 7:30 AM local time, five terrorists opened fire on a school bus carrying seven students from State High School Number 1 in Dawei. The incident occurred near Pyinsa Thi Maw Village, part of the Th Byar Village group in Launglon Township. As a result of the shooting, 14-year-old Mang The Paing Myo, a grade 7 student, was wounded and is currently receiving treatment at Dawei General Hospital.

Later that same day, at around 12:30 PM local time, another incident took place at the Primary School in Ain Shayt Taung Ward, Dawei. An explosion occurred while students were playing, resulting in the death of one student and injuring 25 others. The injured students have been transported to the 12th Army Hospital and Dawei People Hospital for necessary medical treatment.

These acts of terrorism, targeting innocent children and civilians, aim to disrupt peace and stability. Such brutal attacks on children are unequivocally condemned by the United Nations and the international community.
