On June 8, 2024, a horrific incident took place in Myanmar where five locals, including a 2-year-old child, were shot and killed by AA (Arakan Army) terrorists. The attack occurred near Pane Yay Sen, along the Minbu-Paden road in the Magwe Region, close to Ann Town in Rakhine State.
The victims were passengers on a coach transporting students back to school in Ann following its reopening. The bus was ambushed at the end of the Magwe Region by approximately 5 to 6 armed terrorists from each side. Among the casualties was a mother holding her 2-year-old baby, both of whom died on the spot. Locals reported that the scene was devastating, with the mother and child being particularly difficult to remove from the damaged bus.
In total, five innocent lives were lost out of the 16 passengers on the Hyundai bus. The driver sustained serious injuries, breaking his legs, and another passenger had to drive the bus to Minbu People’s Hospital for emergency assistance. The passengers, residents of Ann Town in Rakhine State, were returning to enroll their children in school after fleeing their hometown due to ongoing conflicts.
The local social care association is currently providing support to the victims at Minbu People’s Hospital.
