Terrorist Attacks in Myitkyina, Kachin State Leave Three Dead and Eight Wounded

On May 18, 2024, a terrorist attack in Myitkyina, Kachin State, Myanmar, resulted in the deaths of three innocent people and left eight others wounded. At approximately 8 a.m., rockets were launched by the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and the People’s Defense Force (PDF) targeting the Myitkyina Airforce. However, the rockets missed their intended target and struck residential areas in Pamma Tee Wards 4 and 5, causing significant destruction.
Local sources reported that four houses were completely destroyed, and the casualties included both deaths and injuries among innocent residents.
In addition, starting around 4 a.m. on April 19, 2024, the same terrorist groups began attacking security forces in Wine Maw Township, Myitkyina District.
Currently, there are approximately 300 different militant groups operating in Myanmar. These groups are responsible for numerous human rights violations, including killing, extortion, kidnapping, robbery, bombing, arson, and sexual violence against the local population.
