Repatriation and Resumed Border Trade: Developments Following Conflict in Mae Sot, Tak Province, Thailand
Yangon, Myanmar (24/04/24)
Over 1,000 individuals have repatriated to their homes in Mae Sot, Tak Province, Thailand, following recent hostilities between various militant groups and the Myanmar Army. The conflict prompted nearly 3,000 people to flee the unrest in Myawaddy, Karen State, Myanmar, on April 21, 2024. However, approximately half of the displaced population, comprising over 1,000 individuals, returned the subsequent day, April 22, 2024, as confirmed by a spokesperson for the Thai army.
Amid ongoing discussions between the Myanmar military regime and militant factions, border trading has resumed normal operations following the reopening of Friendship Bridge Number One, the spokesperson further noted.
