Progress Towards Peace: NCA Signatories Advance Political Engagement in Myanmar

The 7-member management committee, signatories of the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA), recently convened an online video conferencing meeting spanning from May 7th to May 8th, 2024. Notably, General Ywet Sit, the chairman representing the Restoration Council of Shan State (RCSS), was in attendance. This gathering marked a significant step towards fostering political engagement and dialogue among stakeholders.

Comprising the Restoration Council of Shan State (RCSS), New Mon State Party (NMSP), Arakan Liberation Party (ALP), Pa-O National Liberation Organization (PNLO), Lahu Democratic Union (LDU), Democratic Karen Benevolent Army (DKBA), and Karen National Union/Karen National Liberation Army-Peace Council (KNU/KNLA-PC), this committee convened for the first time to advance the reconciliation and peace process. Concluding on a positive note, Connel Saw Kyaw Nyunt, spokesperson for the group, affirmed the success of the meeting.

Amid escalating armed conflicts in Myanmar, there is a concerted effort to navigate the complexities and challenges through political dialogue. Recognizing the paramount importance of engaging all relevant parties, inclusive discussions are deemed critical for addressing political instability in Myanmar.
