Two political assassinations in southern Shan State
Two men were gunned down at their home in southern Shan state by a single gunman23 October 2023 around 3 PM local time.
According to the local sources, the gunman came alone to the house of victim Nay Myo, 42 in MyotKone quarter Pekon city, southern Shan state which is border to war-ravaged Kayah state. He was sitting with another murder victim Sai Napoleon Tun, 41 and 2 other neighbors while the gunman opened fired and fled the scene. Police report says both of them were fatally wounded with Nay Myo had 3 bullets on torso and Sai Napoleon Tun had 2 bullets on the head, and pronounced dead on arrival to local hospital.
Although no one claim responsibility for the murder, the local sources claimed Nay Myo is reputed in neighborhood as a Dalan or collaborator of military regime and the police sources says the gunman as a member of PDF, Peoples’ Defense Force the armed opposition group formed after 2021 coup. The political assassination or targeted killing of anyone suspected of collaborating with the military regime by opposition forces occur around the country with daily death toll of at least 4 par day since 2021 coup.
