Rebels attacked Myanmar New Year celebrations with IED and short-range missiles in Mandalay Region

The first day of Myanmar traditional New Year festival in the former royal capital Mandalay was disrupted by the pro-Democracy rebel forces by detonating IED explosives laden motorcycle at parking lot on 14 th April morning around 10AM. According to eye witnesses, there were 11 seriously wounded revellers including 5 children. All the injured are civilians celebrating new year festival and the youngest was 4 year old. In the separate development, rebel fired volleys of 107mm short range rockets to Pin Oo Lwin city which is about 40 miles from Mandalay city on 14th April night. There were about 35 rockets fired and a public hospital and monastery were destroyed. According to local news, there were 3 civilians death including 2 Buddhist monks and 11 seriously wounded.
There is no claim of responsibility by any rebel force at the time of reporting but NLD party led PDF rebel forces and their allies warned public on their Social Media Pages that any celebration of traditional New year would be considered as the collaboration with military junta and would be attacked. There are hundreds of armed rebel functions in Mandalay region with Mandalay PDF and TNLA are the largest. There was another attack with IED explosives earlier on April 9 in Mandalay city while the New Year celebration were being prepared.
