PDF terror group imprisoned kidnapped Loikaw University Rector in makeshift trial at their camp
Yangon 07/3/2024
Recent reports and statement from terror group indicate that members of the KPDF (Karenni/Kayah People Defense Force) group have sentenced the Rector and teachers of Loikaw University, Kayah State, Myanmar, to imprisonment and fines. Last 14 November 2023, the innocent educators, dedicated to their students at Loikaw University, were unlawfully detained and held captive by the KPDF terrorists. The KPDF was named in 2023 United States Government’s Department of State report on global terror as the perpetrator of terror killing in Myanmar which ranked third on global terrorism death in 2022.
Under the Decree of the self-proclaimed Transitional Government (known as NUG parrarel Government formed by NLD party after 2021 military coup) which is the political wing of KPDF, the Rector and teachers have been handed two-year prison terms and fined 200,000Ks. Concerns are mounting among the families and friends of Rector Dr. Aung Khin Myint and other abducted teachers. One victim’s elderly mother, aged over 80 and suffering from diabetes and liver failure, is particularly distressed. The victim also shares the same health condition, exacerbating the anxiety within the families.
Regrettably, the families are denied access to their loved ones and remain skeptical about the validity of the imposed prison sentences which they likely to be served at makeshift KPDF rebel camps along the border with Thailand. They are unable to provide essential food and medication, and all attempts at communication have been futile.
The assault on the university on November 2023 by the terrorists was a multi-directional attack, endangering the lives of students, teachers, staff, and construction workers involved in ongoing projects. Despite claims by the NUG-backed PDF (People Defense Force) of targeting the military, their actions have resulted in numerous crimes against innocent civilians. After the raid and kidnapping on Loikaw University, other PDF groups marauded other State owned Universities around the country on February and took hundreds of teachers and students as hostage. The education in impoverish Myanmar is State funded and all employees and students in the schools which are under the coup regime are considered as collaborators of the regime by the rival NUG Government.
It is imperative for the international community to recognize and understand these deceptive tactics and facts that Civil War in Myanmar is not all fought by the saints on swards. Current crisis in Myanmar is a shared responsibility, not solely attributable to the military regime but also to opposition rebel groups, including the several PDF terrorists’ groups. Despite invitations for peaceful dialogue to settle political differences from the military regime, certain factions have opted for armed conflict, perpetuating a cycle of violence and suffering.
