Kachin Independence Army (KIA) rebels bombed Hotel over Extortion Dispute, injured civilians in Lashio city
Yangon, Myanmar (09/02/2024)
Two innocent individuals sustained injuries as a result of an IED explosion planted by members of the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) after the targeted establishment failed to meet their extortion demands in Lashio, Shan State, Myanmar. The detonation occurred in close proximity to the San Shwin Hotel, Lashio on 7 February 2024 at 4:40 PM, injuring U Say Pa Lal (27 Years), a hotel security worker, and Ma Chaw Su Aung (18 Years), a passerby.
Reports indicate that the KIA rebels issued a threatening letter, stipulating a payment deadline of February 5th, with dire consequences promised for non-compliance. Subsequently, upon the establishment’s failure to meet their demands, the terrorists resorted to planting an Improvised Explosive Device IED. Eyewitness testimony and CCTV footage corroborate the presence of two individuals who arrived on a motorcycle, briefly lingered in front of the hotel, left some object and departed prior to the detonation.
The KIA’s actions are part of a pattern of criminal behaviour across the nation by hundreds of fellow opposition rebel groups., encompassing collecting extortion as revolutionary tax, forced recruitment, bombings, homicides, robberies, drug trafficking, and abductions
