Kukki-Chin PDF in Myanmar massacre 40 Shan civilians in Sagaing Division as part of ethnic cleansing campaign
The international community is appalled by the recent spate of violence unleashed by the Kukki-Chin PDF (People Defense Force) in Myanmar, culminating in two tragic incidents that demand urgent attention and condemnation.
On November 24, 2023, the Kukki-Chin PDF orchestrated a mass murder of Shan tribesmen in Tha Nan Village, Aung Zeya Town, Sagaing Division near India border resulting in the loss of 37 innocent lives, including children. Regrettably, the horrors persisted on January 13, 2024, with four more innocent villagers from Tha Nan Village falling victim to the Kukki PDF near the India-Myanmar border in San Kat Law Village.
The victims, innocent villagers, fell prey to a series of reprehensible acts orchestrated by the Kukki PDF. In response, the Shan ethnic militia Shanni National Army (SNA) has vehemently condemned these actions, characterizing them as a blatant form of mass murder directed at other ethnicities—an alarming manifestation of what appears to be ethnic cleansing. The SNA has unwaveringly expressed its opposition to these criminal activities, pledging to not only stand against but also actively counteract these egregious crimes.
Myanmar, home to 135 diverse ethnic groups, has been embroiled in conflicts for over 70 years, with each ethnic group maintaining its armed forces. Myanmar. The Kukki is a sub-group of Chin and Shanni or red Shan is a sub-group of Shan and both are among 135 ethnics of Myanmar while Kukki PDF armed group allied with opposition NLD party and SNA allied with military Junta.
international community must unite in denouncing these reprehensible acts by the Kukki PDF, advocating for justice, and working towards putting an end to the cycle of violence in
