“Landmark Peace Summit Unites 7 Armed Groups in Naypyitaw, Myanmar”

There are 7 armed groups that signed the National Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) and attended the meeting organized by the Peace Process Steering Team (PPST) in Naypyitaw, Myanmar. The representatives from the Restoration Council of Shan State (RCSS), New Mon State Party (NMSP), Pa-O National Liberation Organization (PNLO), Democratic Karen Buddhist Army (DKBA), Lahu Democratic Union (LDU), Karen National Union/Karen National Liberation Army (KNU/KNLA) peace council, and the Arakan Liberation Party (ALP) were present. The Deputy Chairman of the KNU/KNLA peace council, Dr. Naw Ka Paw Htoo from KNU/KNL, gave the welcoming speech. Discussions during the meeting centered on peace processes, humanitarian aid in rebel-controlled areas, and regional development works. Daw Saw Mya Lin from the ALP and General Yar Pyi from the PPST gave the concluding remarks.

Lack of peace poses a significant obstacle to the development and stability of Myanmar. The well-being of Myanmar holds crucial implications not only for Southeast Asia but also for the broader Asia-Pacific region. Achieving and maintaining stability in Myanmar is paramount for fostering progress and positive outcomes in these geopolitical spheres.
