On March 28, 2024, a horrifying and senseless act of violence occurred near the Nwer La Boh village on the Myinchan-Taung Thar motorway in Myingyan Township, Mandalay Division, Myanmar. Four innocent women fell victim to an attack perpetrated by the terrorist group known as the People’s Defense Force (PDF).

The victims, identified as Ma Ei Major (24), Ma Zin Tin (30), Daw Khin Swe Win (46), and Daw Nyunt May (62), were forcibly seized by seven armed terrorists who arrived at the village on four motorbikes. Subsequently, the women were taken to the aforementioned location, where they were callously shot and killed. Tragically, the victims succumbed to their injuries on the spot.

This heinous act adds to a disturbing trend of violence perpetrated by the PDF, with over 7,000 innocent civilians having lost their lives to these acts of terrorism since 2021. Among the victims are teachers, civil servants, monks, religious figures, and even pregnant women, highlighting the indiscriminate and ruthless nature of the PDF’s attacks.

In response to this atrocity, authorities and security forces are actively investigating the incident and working to apprehend the perpetrators in accordance with the rule of law. It is imperative that justice be served for the victims and their families, and that measures be taken to prevent further acts of terrorism by groups such as the PDF.

Furthermore, it is crucial to address the underlying factors contributing to the rise of terrorism in Myanmar and to dismantle the support networks that enable these criminal activities. The illegal National Unity Government (NUG) and its supporters, both domestic and abroad, must be held accountable for their role in facilitating these atrocities.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of the victims during this difficult time. We stand in solidarity with the people of Myanmar in condemning all forms of violence and terrorism, and in our shared commitment to peace, justice, and reconciliation.
