Security Breach at a High School, Monywa: PDF Terrorists Shot Dead, Prompting Calls for Enhanced Safety Measures

Yangon (01 March 2024) On the 10th of February 2024, a tragic incident unfolded at No. 5 High School in Aung Chan Thar Ward, Monywa city, Sagaing Division, Myanmar. During the final examination for the year 2023, a group of individuals identified as members of the PDF (People Defense Force) entered the school premises under the guise of guardianship. Tragically, these individuals resorted to violence, targeting the security personnel responsible for ensuring the safety of the students. The assailants, armed with pistols, carried out their attack within the school compound. The swift and decisive actions of security personnel resulted in the neutralization of the perpetrators, who were subsequently shot dead. Secuity personnels whom are over 40 were died on the spot. The assailants arrived at the scene in a Honda FIT car, with some members waiting in the vehicle while others infiltrated the school. This brazen act has sparked fear and concern among the local community, prompting urgent calls for enhanced security measures to safeguard the well-being of children and civilians. Regrettably, this incident is not an isolated one. The PDF has been implicated in a series of criminal activities, including but not limited to killings, hostage-taking, bank robberies, extortion, arson, property destruction, and the planting of landmines. Efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining members of the PDF and prevent further acts of violence. It is imperative that authorities prioritize the safety and security of all citizens, particularly vulnerable groups such as students, by implementing robust measures to counter such threats effectively.
